25 year history, established local brand
The business was formed following the purchase of a small skip hire company in 1995 and it has since developed into a full waste management service provider covering many waste types and activities.
The large site it occupies covers two areas of land totalling around 8 acres and buildings with a variety of waste processing machinery and equipment.
Opportunities for growth
In addition to its current services, management believes that there are additional opportunities in increased recycling and sale of end of waste products resulting from improved processing methods.
There is the potential to set up a salvaged products facility on nearby land (for example, builders' materials).
There is also the extant ability on site to offer more waste types, for example hazardous and liquid waste.
By taking advantage of these opportunities, the management believe that turnover would increase by £1m by 2023 from its current point.
High barrier to entry
Construction waste accounts for approximately a third of all waste generated in the UK, including materials such as concrete, plastic, metals, and glass. Around 90% of waste is recovered in the UK however 5 million tonnes is still sent to landfill sites.
Buyers should expect the construction waste recycling market to grow substantially in coming years. There is governmental pressure on construction companies to reduce the level of waste in the sector and to use more recycled materials.
This is a specialist market with high barriers to entry in which our client already has a considerable local presence.
The land and sites used on the company's estate planning and permitting for all waste use. Such land and sites are very sought after in the region and they create a barrier to entry for other businesses wanting to come into the company’s area to compete.
Talented workforce
There are 13 full time members of staff working for our client at time of writing. When needed, the company can use its network of experienced subcontracted plant mechanics and a skip welder/repairer.
In addition to the management team, there are 4 HGV lorry drivers, 5 waste yard operatives.
Strategic decisions are taken at board level by the two shareholding directors. Responsibility for enacting those decisions, training staff, and measuring performance against targets belongs to three managers and a supervisor.
Training the management team to hold board meetings at which decisions governing the future of the company can be provided as well as training to the buyer and his/her representatives.
Financial information
The company is substantial and it owns 88 assets and hires 30 with a net book value of £1,351,523.
The company currently banks, on average, £29,628 in cash every week before VAT.
The company’s top five buyers only account for 12.5% of revenue. A growing number of companies order from the company again & again - there is an opportunity to convert ad-hoc clients to contract clients.
Find out more
The current owners have no desire to build the business to a greater size and they are keen to find a new owner who can take the business to the levels they believe are possible and achievable within a 1-3 year time period.
In addition to a full order book, this cash-generative business comes with a willing, experienced, and talented workforce requiring minimal oversight by a new owner.
In previous full year, turnover over £1,600,267 with an adjusted EBITDA of £448,006 after depreciation, finance, and director remuneration costs have been added back.
